Iconic Kiwiana
Playful interpretations of iconic art with a uniquely New Zealand twist
about this collection
“After”
In this ever growing series I am learning, developing my own skills and trying to introduce the art that I love to a New Zealand audience by making the subject matter something kiwis recognise.
Not many people in 2024 New Zealand may relate to the Campbell’s Soup Can, the Mona Lisa or a dutch girl with an earring, but they may see a reflection of their own culture in a moko or tiki, or in place names or characters they recognise. Hopefully that in turn will lead them to explore the original artworks and develop a lifetime interest in art.

“Sometimes I think everything I draw is just a combination of all of the millions and millions of drawings I’ve seen.”

“It’s not where you take things from - it’s where you take them to.”
