kiwi
kiwi - north island brown kiwi (Apteryx mantelli)
In the heart of New Zealand's North Island, the Kiwi reigns as a unique treasure. This flightless wonder roams native forests, scrublands, pine forests, and rugged farmlands, from sea level to high altitudes. It's a creature of the night, heard more than seen, with the male's high-pitched whistle and the female's deep cry. Adorned in dark brown with streaks of reddish-brown and black, their spiky feathers, long pale bill, and short dark legs define their mystique.
